FIELD GUIDE / 02

Beyond the fight,
understand the battlefield.

Objectives, supply and the people around you. WvW becomes more rewarding when you understand how they connect.

READ THE MAP

Even a small camp matters to your team.

Red, green and blue teams compete for objectives. Stonemist Castle sits at the center of Eternal Battlegrounds, while each Borderlands map serves as a team's home territory. Read map names and objective colors together to understand the front line.

Points earned by holding objectives are commonly called PPT. Results from two-hour skirmishes contribute to weekly Victory Points. Weighting varies by time zone and region, so older fixed 5/4/3-point tables may not apply. Use the current Match Overview figures.

01 / OBJECTIVES

What will you capture and defend?

Three teams capture and defend objectives. Start by checking the map and allied positions in Eternal Battlegrounds and the Borderlands.

Objective roles and basic approach

Breaking the gate is only the beginning.

  1. At towers and keeps, breach a gate or wall, then push through any inner defenses. Camps have no walls and require a different approach.
  2. Defeat the main NPC guarding the objective. Keep watching for defenders and nearby enemies.
  3. Hold the capture circle against enemy interference and confirm the capture completes. Regroup and replenish supply for the next move.

02 / SUPPLY

Supply connects the battlefield.

Supply is used to build siege weapons and repair structures. Escorting dolyaks or disrupting enemy supply lines also contributes to the battle.

DEFEND SMARTER

Check before pulling that lever.

Objective upgrades include passive effects and tactics you activate. Similar names do not mean they work the same way.

Improvements · Passive effects

Passive upgrades apply when their upgrade tier becomes available. They do not require pulling a lever each time. Check objective information for active effects.

Tactics · Activated effects

Activate these through a Tactivator. Permissions and cooldowns apply, so ask the defense leader before using one out of curiosity.

04 / MOVE TOGETHER

Move together before you fight together.

  • Check the commander tag and allied rally point.
  • Listen to advance and retreat calls, and avoid chasing too far.
  • Check nearby danger before helping a downed ally.
  • Regroup after combat, check supply and confirm the next objective.

Why staying close matters

Your distance from your party affects whether you receive support skills. Stability counters control effects such as knockdowns, while Protection reduces strike damage. Neither prevents all damage or conditions, so keep avoiding dangerous area attacks.

Before reviving a downed ally, check the commander's calls and your surroundings. If defeated, find a safe waypoint and regroup location. Rejoining the next rally matters more than one lost fight.
